A cold and windy airshow in the Eifel
USAFE’s 52nd Fighter Wing (FW), located in the beautiful Eifel area of Germany, organized an open house on 30 & 31 July of 2011.
The 52 FW consists of two flying squadrons, the 480th and 81st Fighter Squadrons. The 480th FS operates F-16’s and 81st FS A-10’s. The 480th FS ‘Warhawks’ primarily performs the Wild Weasel mission of suppression or destruction of enemy air defenses, and also interdiction and counter air operations. The 81st FS ‘Panthers’ provides close air support to ground forces, air strike control and combat search and rescue missions.
During the open house the wing demonstrated their skills in the air and on the ground. A static display showed U.S. and NATO aircraft, weapons and vehicles to the public. Although it was mid summer the temps felt like a cold autumn day. Thanks to country singer Nicole Frechette the crowd could warm up by dancing during her concert.
