Tigermeet 2011; a worthy goodbye for the Cambrai Tigers
From 9 until 20 May Base Aérienne 103 – Cambrai Épinoy was the host of this year’s NATO Tiger meet, which marked the 50th Anniversary since the first Tiger Meet at RAF Woodbridge in 1961.
This year’s Tiger Meet was a rather sad occasion because this would be the last meet for Escadron 1/12 “Cambresis”, since the Armée de l’Air has decided to close BA-103 and disband Escadron de Chasse 1/12 Cambrésis in 2012.
Over 60 fixed wing aircraft and helicopters
Although the Royal Netherlands Air Force, the Norwegian Air Force and the Hungarian Air Force cancelled their participation, over 60 fixed wing aircraft and helicopters were involved with forces from Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom. The Spanish Mirage F.1s and a Merlin of the Royal Navy were only present during the second weekend of the exercise. On 11, 16 and 17 May photographers were welcome on the airbase to witness the Tiger Meet action from nearby.
