AMARG – The Most Misunderstood Place in the U.S. Military

A large part of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona, is in use by the 309th Aerospace Maintenance And Regeneration Group (AMARG), better known as the “Bone Yard”. The 309th is responsible for maintaining aircraft for all the U.S. armed forces, federal agencies and several allied governments.
More than 4000 aircraft are stored at AMARG. Those aircraft costed the taxpayers more than $34 billion when originally purchased.
But the 309th does much more than just storing and disposing of old aircraft.

An aritcle about the 309th AMARG was published in the May 2014 issue of Air Forces Monthly, in the April 2014 issue of Full Stop Magazine and in the June 2014 issue of Take-Off magazine.
