Belgian F-16s delivered to the Jordanian Air Force
In the spring of 2006 the Jordan, Dutch and Belgium governments agreed that the Jordanian Air Force would buy 22 F-16s from the Royal Netherlands and Belgium Air Force in the upcoming years. The Jordans would buy six F-16Bs from the Royal Netherlands Air Force and four F-16Bs and twelve F-16As from the Belgian Air Force. Part of the deal was also the training of Jordanian pilots and technicians. Since 2006, 10 pilots have completed their training course at the OCU squadron at Kleine Brogel AB in Belgium.
First delivery
On Wednesday 10 September 2008, the first four Belgian F-16s were delivered to the Royal Jordanian Air Force. At 8.30 AM on a grey and cloudy morning, the F-16s left Kleine Brogel AB, for their trip to Jordan. Because there was no air-to-air refueling, the Vipers first flew to Aviano AB, Italy, and from there to Souda Air Base on Crete, Greece. The final stop -and new home base of the Vipers- was Al Azraq/As Shaheed Muwaffaq Salti AB, about 90 miles East of capital Amman. The four aircraft that were delivered today were:
F-16A: 140 (formerly FA-58) and 142 (formerly FA-61)
F-16B: 138 (formerly FB-04) and 139 (formerly FB-08)
F-16A 145 (formerly FA-73) was also on the flight-line, but as a spare. It stayed behind when the first four Vipers successfully left Kleine Brogel.
