A Great Place for a Weekend Visit
Fort Worth Alliance Airport is located just north of the central business district of Fort Worth, Texas. It officially opened in 1989 and is the world’s first 100% industrial airport designed for cargo and corporate aviation. ‘AFW’ features a vast array of flight services, including air cargo, corporate and military aviation. The airport is frequently visited by military aircraft for refuelling or an overnight stay in the city of Fort Worth.
The weekends
Also in the weekends, military aicraft, mainly from training bases in the Southern part of the States, use the airport. During our visit on 18 and 19 March 2017 seven T-38Cs from Laughlin AFB, three T-1As (two from Laughlin AFB and one from Vance) and a T-6A from Laughlin were present. Also using the airport during the weekend was an F/A-18A+ from the Marines Reserve unit VMFA-112 which is stationed at NAS JRB Fort Worth. Photo opportunities of aircraft on the flighline are great. With a small stepladder the aircraft can be shot beautifully. Thanks to Alliance Aviation Service, that made a visit to the flightline possible.
